About the Institute
The offer of the Institute of Cultural Studies in the area of teaching is varied and adapted to market needs. Currently, the Institute offers first-cycle and second-cycle full-time and extramural cultural studies, as well as first-cycle full-time studies in journalism and social communication. As one of the few universities in Poland, we provide third-cycle (doctoral) studies in the humanities in the discipline of cultural studies.
Studies conducted at the Institute of Cultural Studies allow graduates to compete in the labor market, in the sectors of public administration (central and local goverment), non-governmental organizations and the business community in such the areas of professional activity as:
- organizing artistic activity
- managing cultural institutions
- promoting culture and cultural education
- journalism
- intercultural mediation
- public relations in the culture sector\
- marketing in the area of culture
- media and advertising activities
Skills: A graduate of the Institute of the Cultural Studies is a person who is able to assess the most important achievements of creative disciplines: literature, film, theatre, music, fine arts, applied art.
Creativity: The objective of the studies is to prepare the students for independent participation in various forms of cultural activity. These include, in particular: literary, film and theatre criticism; promotion of national heritage; intercultural communication; cultural exchange; journalism; editorship.
Mobility: We believe that among the major factors facilitating acquisition of the qualifications mentioned above and affecting significantly the ability of the graduates to build their own careers and their competitiveness such as expertise and practical skills there are the knowledge of different cultures and fluency in foreign languages. Students can develop these cultural skills by benefiting from Erasmus foreign scholarship programs, in which our university participates.
Perspectives: In addition to obtaining basic knowledge of history, sociology, anthropology and philosophy of culture, ethics and philosophy of religion, social psychology, personel and project management, aesthetics and art history, as well as social and political philosophy, students have the opportunity to broaden their interests and develop practical skills in many specializations which are popular today.
Heritage: Analysis of various cultural products, including the popular culture and the ability to communicate with other people in the world in which there are various religions, values and political views, will be based on the teachings of the Catholic Church and achievements of the European civilization.
